It's so good to know that there are loyal, loving, good guys out there who would stick around with a girl who is basically a different person now. What a stud. Judging the Judges

How much do we really miss these guys?

Ever since it was announced that Simon wasn't coming back, which then lead wild speculation about who would be replacing him and Kara, RaeLynn and I have had various discussions about the judges. She swore up and down that if the rumors were true that Steven Tyler would be a judge, she WOULD NOT watch season 10. Usually this would be followed by me telling her that I didn't believe she could abstain from AI, if for nothing else, just to see what the show would be like now that 2 of the 3 original judges were no longer present. She still insisted she wouldn't watch.

After the official announcement came out that he would, in fact, be on the show, our discussions were mostly around how much we knew he would BUG us, and we decided that watching the show would probably only be fun to see how it slowly would start to go downhill and crash and burn inevitably. Maybe the show has run it's course and this would be the last year.

I honestly don't have a problem with Jennifer Lopez being on the show. If anything, I just figured she would be a more stable version of Paula, because she's so nice. We've definitely missed the good Paula crazy moments the last few seasons, but we're over it.

But I have been bugged by Steven Tyler for as long as I can remember. Not that I've really seen much of him in the media other than just being the lead singer of Aerosmith. He's such a... weird guy, though, that he always just seemed to rub me the wrong way. And I'm sorry, but he is definitely in the running for one of the ugliest men in showbiz... I don't know how his daughter got her good looks. He seems like he came straight out of the movie The Dark Crystal.

There were really 3 gelflings left after the purge. One just went into show biz.

I have to say, however, that after watching the first 2 episodes of season 10... I'm actually starting to like him. He's quirky enough to bring some personality into the group that's different than Randy and Jennifer, and he also seems to contribute some good feedback and criticism to the people who are auditioning. More than anything, he actually seems to bring a more positive vibe to the show. Don't get me wrong, I usually enjoyed watching Simon. He just knew that his "role" on the show was to be the HARSH critic. And he would deliberately, in my opinion, go way overboard with the criticism sometimes, because he knew it would create controversy and everyone would talk about it. He knew how to give people what they wanted, even if they thought they didn't want it.

But I found myself having a lot of fun during the first 2 episodes when I would watch as Steven would totally get into the auditions that were really good. He would start banging on the table in rhythm with the song, sing along sometimes, and he'd get really excited about someone if they deserved it. Obviously he seems like a really fun-loving guy, even if there are quite a few things about him that rub me the wrong way. For the most part, I think the show got it right to hire him on as a new judge. And even though we've only watched the first week of the new season, I'm starting to think that season 10 might NOT be a train wreck, after all. Who knows, we'll see.

Please view the new header for the blog (compliments of Danny). Who knows how things are going to be this year...I'm still trying to decide if it's worth the time I dedicated to this blog to keep it going. My problem is that I like to DISCUSS this stuff. It's fun to watch the performances but sometimes I like to do a little deep sea diving into the contestants...because let's face it: some of them will be big time celebrities and it's fun to watch it all unfold.

I know I need to stop saying that no season will ever be like Season 7 with the Davids (but it just can't). So I might have to end every blog post with that in mind. Just sayin'.

I didn't really think I had anyone really reading this! Well whattaya know?! I see a MAJOR dilemma coming up for this season of Idol. Actually, several.

* Simon is gone and he ran the show (let's get the obvious out of the way)
* Steven Tyler is a judge and I can't stand to even look at him
* Simon is gone (oops, already said that)

Part of me doesn't want to watch this season because I kind of want to "stick it to the man" and prove a point that I think they made a HUGE mistake with Steven Tyler. I actually like the J-Lo choice because she's a lot like what Paula was. I think a teensy part of me would miss Randy but only because if he was gone I'd feel like I had the rug pulled out from under me. I need a little bit of familiarity on that panel.

On the other hand, part of me wants to watch because I can't imagine it NOT being a train wreck and who doesn't like to watch that? Especially if it ends up making Steven Tyler look bad (or his mouth look bigger--wait. Not possible).

Maybe watching the press release with all the newbies will change my mind??

Also, Aaron probably should have gone back and watched David's performance of The Long and Winding Road because had he done that--he probably would have picked a different song. Nobody can touch that song now.

An 'Idol' in distress: The top six reasons season nine is a turn-off

Paula Abdul, you are missed. Simon Cowell, who said we like you kinder and gentler? (AP / Rene Macura)What’s wrong with "American Idol" this season? That’s the question I keep hearing, from fans and foes of the long-running Fox reality series.

Although ratings continue to slip and slide, "Idol" remains one of the most-watched shows on television, pulling in more than 20 million viewers for its weekly episodes. The biggest competitor: "Dancing With the Stars," which seems poised to reach "Idol" status in 2010 and occasionally sneak past it.

Putting Ellen DeGeneres in a spangly ball gown or teaching Randy Jackson to samba really isn’t the solution for "Idol," though. America’s favorite singing contest is dealing with a variety of pesky gremlins, including the following:

Season nine burnout. "Idol" watchers have seen it all before, and frankly, we’re getting a bit tired of the concept and its execution. Same-old theme nights, revolving door of singers, cheesy group performances, doggedly upbeat Ford commercials, dragged-out results shows.

Nothing lasts forever, and "Idol" may have reached its big peak and started its inevitable fall.

Ellen, you’re no Paula. The elfin talk-show host has been disappointingly vague and timid in her evaluations of contestants. (Her repetitive mantra: "Great!" "That was great!" "I thought it was great!")

Ellen DeGeneres, it's time to get tough. (AP, Fox / Michael Becker)Although DeGeneres was hired to fill the "nice judge" slot, nice and tame simply don’t cut it. She’s obviously struggling with the desire to be likable and critical, but the two aren’t an easy match, especially when the judge in question appears to have a flimsy knowledge of music mechanics.

Who ever thought we’d miss Paula’s loopy comments about the moth and the melon ball? Abdul displayed a charming lack of lucidity, and as it turns out, her fuzzy ramblings had actual entertainment value. Note, too, that in her final season, a clearer-minded Abdul delivered some performance advice that was right on target.

The ever-wavering bar of quality. Singing standards are extremely mushy in the "Idol" universe. This year’s pageant singer (that’s you,Katie Stevens) would have earned raves during previous seasons, when the show wasn’t so focused on breaking a singer-songwriter type. That’s got to be frustrating for a kid who’s been watching the contest obsessively, modeling herself on singers like Diana DeGarmo and Katharine McPhee.

In season nine, the judges constantly urge contestants to fashion themselves into something contemporary and commercial. That’s a tall order, especially when you’re a fledgling performer who’s trying to learn a song, hit the notes and move around well on stage.

Besides, isn’t it "Idol’s" job to take a diamond-in-the-rough winner and polish him or her to a commercial luster?

Five-minute mentors. As viewers have learned, "Idol" hopefuls get lots of confusing, conflicting advice from the folks in charge. Singers are supposed to take risks, but not get too crazy or offbeat. They’re told to make songs their own, but remember it’s crucial to stick to the basic melodies. Celebrity mentors — who swoop in, plug their new projects and have brief exchanges with each singer — really don’t help to clarify matters.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see mentors who spend at least a day with the contestants, offering pointers on everything from pitch to choreography? Performing on stage, in front of the cameras, seems to be the greatest challenge for "Idol" wannabes. Surely suave, nimble Usher and the ultra-confident Miley Cyrus (who paid visits to the show in season nine) have that part down cold.

Just as important: Real mentoring sessions could provide compelling backstage fodder for viewers. Hugs exchanged between fledglings and celebs? Not so interesting.

Simon’s looking for "The X Factor." The brutal Brit is on his way out, biding his time before the big push for his next series. In political terms, that makes Cowell a lame duck, and he’s quacking with less vigor than in previous years. (He’s smiling far too much, as well.) Can’t be the mean judge if you’re soft-pedaling the criticism, downplaying "waiter on a cruise ship" remarks and saying "sorry!" to the contestants as if you mean it.

Many candidates have been proposed for Cowell’s successor, from Ben Folds to Howard Stern, but to my way of thinking, the ideal replacement would be composer-producer David Foster. He’s got all the qualifications: huge ego, blunt manner, sharp mind, substantial experience in the pop music industry. In 2005, Foster cut several contestants down to size during his stint as an "Idol" mentor.

Don’t underestimate his sappy catalogue and contacts, either. Working with artists such as Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Josh Groban is ever-so "Idol." Even better, Foster could engage in name-dropping that would put Randy’s boasts to shame.

One word: Ke$ha. The idea of presenting "hot" music guests on the results shows — some of whom pre-tape their performances and lip-sync — jumped the shark when Ke$ha leaped onstage in her Indian headdress, miming the lyrics to "Blah Blah Blah." (Yes, that’s the actual song title.) No one in charge seemed to care about the paradox: Silly, tasteless and tone-deaf Ke$ha epitomizes everything the show’s contestants are supposed to shun. She’s the anti-"Idol," and right now, she’s ultra-popular.

Even though I predicted her exit (because I'm a genius) I still think it's too bad that Didi had to go. She had so much going for her and had some great moments. I think she was maybe too overwhelmed with the whole process and the fact that the judges' comments really rattled her. Simon was especially cruel and it's probably hard to come back each week and not think about what they've said. I was just listening to the Rhiannon version that Didi sang and she did it brilliantly. It's too bad she didn't find herself earlier on. She has some real potential.

Catching up with Alex Lambert

I'm still mourning the fact that Alex was kicked off Idol as swiftly as he was. It just wasn't fair. I've been curious about what he's been up to and I have some good news for us all! First of all--look at THIS:

Yes, that is him with no mullet. Can you believe it? What a sharp lookin' guy.

That's not the only thing that has changed. After a petition of over 19,000 signatures to get him back on the show, Simon Fuller (the creator of Idol) took notice and has snagged Alex for his new reality TV show "If I Can Dream". I just recently heard about this show and it totally freaks me out. This is the real Truman Show. Remember that movie?

Yep. There is LIVE 24/7 STREAMING video throughout a multi-million dollar mansion that will follow 6 "dreamers" who want to make it big in Hollywood. Alex will be moving in to the house tomorrow, April 1st and this is no joke. The description of the website is:

If I Can Dream is an online series that follows a group of aspiring young artists (including Justin Gaston, Miley Cyrus’ ex-boyfriend) living together in a house and trying to make their dreams a reality.

The creepy thing isn't the goal of the show of course, but the fact that these people are giving their privacy away for the whole world to see! I think this reality show is different than others in that there isn't time for it to be edited (if they are being honest). It's completely live for everyone to view from home at any second of any day. That's completely different than the "reality shows" that we watch.

Of course my curiosity got the better of me and I had to go look at the website. Sure enough, there are lots of lots of cameras to choose from. I saw one girl in front of her mirror getting her hair ready and another girl dressed to the nines on her cell phone. Not only can you see what is happening but you can hear it too. When you click on a camera, you can hear the audio. Welcome to the future! There will be "recap episodes" every week on Hulu but if you want to waste your life away watching these people live their lives--go for it. I see this becoming monumentally addictive. I don't know if i should let myself even go to the website anymore. I took a few screen shots so you can see the crazy for yourself:

Does that creep anyone else out? If what these people want is to get their "name out there" this is definitely the place to do it. Although I am glad to be seeing more of Alex, I'm a little worried that this might be too much exposure for such a quiet, reserved guy. Raetime's Review

Not much happened last night that is worthy of talking about except a few things.

* Usher has a nice smile and was a decent mentor. Finally.
* Siobhan crashed and burned and was so upset about it that she wouldn't let anyone console her backstage.
* Lee pushes his way up to the top of my faves. I love his humility...I almost don't want him to be more confident. Heh.
* Katie wears a weird jump suit that should have never been revisited from the '70s.
* Michael bores me again. Nice voice. Totally cocky. Meh.
* Andrew gives a solid performance but I'm still blah towards him.
* Didi's emotions get even more fragile and delicate (didn't think it was possible).
* Casey rocked out and I loved it.
* Aaron (the 11 year old) sings fine but is sooo boring. I'm serious that every Archuleta comparison needs to STOP.
*Crystal actually does lose her identity and gets sucked into the whole "girls are supposed to dress this way" Idol Machine. Noooooooooooooooooo.
* Tim's deer-in-the-headlights look is even FREAKIER than ever.

WHO IS GOING HOME????????

We all know that the ideal candidate would be Tim Urban but since this is the view from VFTW's homepage, it's likely that our dreams won't come true. (One can dream).

If it's not Tim, I think it'll be Didi or Aaron. I know I'm taking a risk by saying Didi but she has just really floundered lately. It's too bad because I really did like her at first.

Season 9 is SO BORING

There are only about 3 people who I even care about watching. I am seriously so bored right now. It's a commercial break and I am about to fall asleep. What gives? The most exciting thing about this group of people is watching their new makeovers since becoming in the top 12.

I'm so sick of hearing "I just wanted to have fun". OK, people--we know you want to have fun but if you have fun and your voice sucks, it's just not going to cut it. So stop saying it and sing better.

Siobhan needs to win. SHE should be the mentor...not Miley Cyrus.

Lee: Weird song choice. He's cute.
Paige: Please kill me. And make it quick.
Tim: Dumb song choice...boring and he should be singing for birthday parties--not America.
Aaron: Cute little guy. You could tell he was sick but it was a good song for him. He is NO ARCHIE.
Crystal: I know she's good and I won't deny it, I just don't look forward to her performances as I do others.
Michael: I kept hoping & praying he'd go flat. Alas he didn't. He's good. Whatever. He bugs me.

Katie: She is definitely getting more confident but she needs to get her pitch under control.

She is my absolute favorite. She's probably the only reason I'm still watching this season...

This picture is classic. Says it all. See ya later Lilly. I watched an interview with her after the show and she was obviously really really ticked and shocked. It's people like that who shouldn't win. We should see some progression. She was boring to me and those feather earrings about did me in.

I have to share this interview because she is SO overly-confident and totally slams Katie Stevens and most of the other contestants as well. Way to burn some bridges, girl. The part about her demographic not owning a TV and being more likely to be outdoors in the mountains than watching American Idol is especially stinging to pretty much everyone that watches the show.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How are you doing?

LILLY SCOTT: Doing pretty good actually. I’m not devastated.

Yeah. Last night, I kind of felt like you weren’t ”devastated,” but maybe outraged.

I’m definitely not outraged or frustrated. I’m definitely disappointed that I didn’t make the top 12 just because I thought that I had done really well, listening to what the judges had said and how the producers had been treating me. But I don’t think my voting demographic was there.

What is that demographic in your opinion?

Definitely more of the indie, unsigned artist demographic that probably doesn’t even own a TV and is probably out riding their bikes or playing on a mountain. They’re not sitting inside watching American Idol. So I think that kind of affected me probably with votes.

You said you were kind of surprised by the vote because of the feedback you’ve been getting. What was it like off-stage after your performance on Tuesday?

Yeah. It just seemed like everything had gone swimmingly up to this point. I don’t know what really happened. I mean, every comment I would get when I performed was good, and everything off-stage was great. I don’t know, I guess the fans just weren’t there for whatever reason.

You said last night that you weren’t sure what America is looking for. What are they looking for in your opinion?

You know, I don’t know. Last night when I watched who made it into the Top 12, specific people were just bumming me out. It seemed like just another season of almost karaoke singers being molded into a big pop star. I don’t know. That was one of the reasons I tried out this season because I really wanted to break the mold and try to give some off-the-wall, different music for America to listen to. But I think staying true to myself and picking crazy songs…I don’t know. I don’t regret anything. I definitely don’t think the tween audience knows who Patsy Cline is, so that might have affected me.

What’s your next move from here?

Hopefully recording an album. I would love to get on the summer show circuit, things like Coachella and Bonnaroo. That’s definitely the market I want to be in. Hopefully, someday I’ll be able to open for people like Björk or Radiohead, major indie artists gone totally mainstream who are well recognized and respected. It’s just sort of the route I’m trying to go for. I don’t know if it was the earrings or what it was that people weren’t feeling. I don’t necessarily walk into the salon and ask for the Emmylou Harris hair. I love my hair, and I’m not going to change, maybe that’s what America didn’t want. I think American Idol every year is about turning someone into something else. And Kara came up to me after I was eliminated and said, ”Maybe America didn’t put you through because they almost think that you are almost ready as an artist and you are so sure of who you are as a person that there’s almost nothing to make of you. You’re almost ready to go.” I feel like I went out with a bang. I didn’t leave on a horrible night. I don’t know. I really wish I could have made it into the Top 12, that’s for sure.

Is that the vibe you were getting from the judges? Were they as shocked as everyone else?

You know, apparently Ellen is upset. I don’t know. I don’t know what happened. I know that the judges liked me and that the producers liked me. I was getting along with all the contestants. I was having a great time. I was being positive and cooperative and really having a great time on the show. I guess the fans didn’t get a chance to see that. I guess they’re looking for someone like Katie [Stevens] or someone like Lacey [Brown] this year. I don’t know what happened. It’s kind of a bummer.

When Katelyn got voted off – this was before you got voted off – you looked really upset. Were you two close?

Definitely. We were roommates the whole time, and she’s definitely a major thing I’ve gained from the competition. She’s a really close friend. Crystal as well, but Crystal’s doing great. But I mean, that was the thing. I was receiving just as good – if not better – comments than Crystal. They were saying I was a true artist. I don’t know, but Crystal was also playing a lot more mainstream songs.

Is there anything else you want to add about what you’ve been through or where you’re going?

Basically just that American Idol was a great stepping stone, and I’m looking forward to moving on with my career. I’m so thankful for everything I’ve gained from the show, and I’m really excited to have gained the fan base and audience from American Idol that will follow me through my career. I hope America doesn’t forget about me because I’m definitely going to pull out some crazy stuff that people will love to enjoy a lot more than cover songs.

My favorite Girl:

Hands down. Siobhan. Not only is she the most versitile but she is so mysterious to me...I can't figure out who she is...but I'm starting to really look forward to her performances each week.

I don't think people who haven't researched some of her work understand how talented she is. I found some stuff on YouTube of hers and I was literally STUNNED. She can sing total opera. You have to check it out. The 4:50 mark about killed me. I put my hand over my mouth in awe. And this was in High School.

Lee. This is also an easy one for me. I like his style and his personality doesn't put me off. I think he's got serious potential and I want to see him rock out.

Let's hear it for the boys (or not...)

In no particular order...

I like Lee but he needs a tighter belt. I thought it was a teensy bit awkward with him and his mic stand and I'm still waiting for him to sing an entire song without going flat. Having said that--I do like him. I love his voice and I think he's a major dark horse. I think we'll see him in the top 5.

No. No. No. No. I really don't care that he has a new baby at home or that his wife is moving to LA...he just bugs me. He's the cliche r&b type singer that just doesn't appeal to me. He seems a little too confident.

He did seem more confident this week but I didn't like the song choice for him. It'll be fun to watch him progress as the season goes on. We all know that the teeny boppers will keep him around.

Wow. I had some pretty mean thoughts towards this guy from last week. I didn't think he deserved to be there at ALL...but I have to say that tonight he blew me away. I actually LOVE his voice and he's becoming sort of endearing to me. If we can just get that mullet chopped, he could really go places.

He totally has a cool voice (it's kind of like Danny Gokey's but better). Danny commented that he sounded a bit "off" tonight. He doesn't look as comfortable without his guitar. I agree with all the judges (minus Ellen who loved it). Everyone gave him so much hype up front but I'm just not feelin' it.

Great song choice for him but I didn't like his performance as much as last week. Side note: I think Kara was overly harsh on him because she's probably getting some crap for crushing on him so hard in front of the entire world. So, I'm liking him, but I haven't truly fallen for him like some people have. I am waiting to be totally blown away. That hasn't happened yet--it might, just not yet.

I can't stand this guy. I don't like looking at him, I don't like listening to him and I don't ever want to see him in onesie pajamas again. EVER.

I really liked this guy at first but there's something about him that just isn't clicking with me. He definitely won't win...we'll just have to wait out our time with him. He does have pretty eyes though..

Total MEH. He had better be gone next week. I absolutely love this song but the performance was completely forgettable and boooooooooooring. I think Simon is drunk by complimenting him. Maybe it's his tactic so as to not give him pity votes. But I'm guessing he doesn't need those since he's the pick for Vote for the Worst.

Song choice: So so so so so boring. John seems like a nice enough guy...but as I'm typing this I can't even remember his performance. It's true.

Season 9 so far

Maybe it's just me but it seems like Season 9 has some weird little things going on:

* Why doesn't anyone seem to know what's going on with the judging panel? It seems like none of the judges know when it's their turn to start commenting. Is it the producers or the judges who are just not paying attention?

* Why is this year supposed to be the most talented when so far I haven't been impressed?

* Why don't the contestants know what kinds of songs to pick that will flatter their range and style? I swear there were only a handful of contestants from last week that picked a decent song for their FIRST performance.

* WHY OH WHY are they lip syncing the group numbers again this year? It is SO SO SO cheesy!! As if the choreography wasn't cheesy enough, they have to add the voice overs. Ack.

* Why does Simon seem extra ornery so far this season?

* Why are they cutting the season in HALF? I know I've commented on it a couple times already but it is seriously bothering me. How are we really supposed to get attached to any of the contestants when we're only seeing them for like 6 weeks in a row? I would totally feel ripped off if I were a contestant this year.

Eta: I'm not sure what's going on now...I just looked at a blog that showed this as the AI schedule which DOES show them eliminating the top 12 one at a time (as it should be)...but it only goes 'til the top 8...I'm not sure why the schedule stops there. This gives me hope that the season won't be completely ruined :)

* Why didn't they totally toot their own horn by giving former contestant Chris Sligh the credit for actually writing the song Here Comes Goodbye that Aaron Kelly sang on Wednesday night? Sure Rascal Flatts sings it, but I think that Chris should get some credit for writing it. Especially since he is Idol alumni. I don't know--just kind of strange to me. And by the way--everyone needs to stop comparing Aaron to David Archuleta. Not even in the same league. Not even close.

* Why is the band so "off" this year? I don't think the contestants can hear themselves...

* Why does everyone hate Kara? I think she has good feedback and knows what will sell. Plus, she's hot.

* And last but not least, why in the HECK are contestants getting voted off that don't suck? Last week really ticked me off.

On a positive note:

I have to say that I'm really happy with Ellen's contribution. I think her comments are relevant, refreshing and she definitely has a unique perspective. I think I have agreed with her on everything she has said.

These are my favorite types of posts. Supposedly these songs were leaked in Brazil. And even though some are saying that these are songs that didn't make the cut for their first albums, some think that they are tracks that will be included on their new albums (to be released later this year). Here's what MJ has to say about it...

I agree with commenters, that both songs sound like old material and aren’t candidates for the new records both are working on.

I love both of these songs. I have no idea why they didn't make the albums (if this is indeed the source of where they came from). I can think of a song on both albums that could be replaced with these. *Sigh* Anyone know how to download these?

The Guest Judges

I haven't had a lot of time to update this blog but when I have something important to say--I will. I wanted to do a quick recap of all the guest judges. I think overall, having guest judges is a benefit to the contestants. Usually they don't want to be the mean one so I think they'll follow the lead of the nicer comments. Here's what I think about who was on the panel while Ellen was doing her own thang. In no particular order:

Katy Perry

I cannot stand her. She was a total witch in general and her little comment to Kara "This isn't a movie from Lifetime, sweetheart" really bugged me. I understand that Kara's assessment of whether that particular contestant would have been hollywood material may have been swayed by their backstory but Katy is just a word that I can't type on my blog. I'm pretty sure she loves herself and I felt like she was trying a little too hard to be tough on the contestants. I don't know--her whole demeanor seems like an act to me. I just don't like her in general.

Neil Patrick Harris

First of all, this guy could just sit there and pick his nose and I would still like him. I've just always loved him and his iTunes webisodes of Dr. Horrible have propelled him into the list of my top 10 favorite celebs. Look it up if you haven't seen it. Hilar. Anyway, I felt like he was genuine with the contestants. He wasn't gooey or extreme with his praise and he gave constructive criticism. I also loved that he was brave enough to disagree with Simon--a lot.

Kristen Chenoweth

She was probably my favorite judges to watch. Aside from the fact that she knows her stuff, it was hilarious to watch her and Kara interact. Kristen just seems like somebody everyone would want to be friends with. I think she loved sitting on the panel and experiencing what the judges have to endure day after day :) I don't know why I liked her so much. Probably mostly just because I find her likable...she didn't really have anything helpful to say--I just like her. heh.

Shania Twain

I have always been a fan of Shania Twain and I thought she did a great job. If anyone knows anything about every aspect of being a professional musician, it's her. She's not just an entertainer, she's technically skilled and has the "it" factor. I thought she gave good feedback that was helpful and not just a copycat comment from the other judges. Loved her.

Victoria Beckham

I'm sorry (actually, I'm really not) but I think she was just a pretty face. She was more interested in what they were wearing, their SKIN TONE and their lack of or amazing sense of fashion. I understand that AI is looking for a "total package" but seriously--I doubt she knows much about real singing besides wearing fun outfits and singing cliche songs with some girly friends. I find her totally boring...almost robotic. Maybe it's the botox injections?

Joe Jonas

If it was possible to be more lame that Victoria Beckham--Joe pulled it off. Now, this could be due in part to the editing of the producers, and a lot of his comments could have ended up on the editing room floor but I only heard one or two real comments aside from "yeah" or "yes". Seriously? I can imagine being very intimidated sitting there but he's a professional so you'd think that wouldn't really affect him. I laughed to myself imagining the girls coming to not only be star struck by the judges but also a JONAS BROTHER. Hahaha, that probably sent some of them for a real loop.

Mary J. Blige

The thing I was remember the most about Mary was her telling "guitar girl" that she didn't get it and was the only one to not give her a yes. Good for her! I also loved how she had no problem sharing her true opinion. She was blatantly laughing in some of the contestants' faces and even though this usually makes me feel bad--for some reason watching her try to keep a straight face was really entertaining. She couldn't keep herself together which was awesome. Especially with the whole "Pants on the Ground" guy. I thought she was equally hilarious as him. If you have to go back and watch it--her guffaw is well worth your time!

Avril Lavigne

Not much to say but lame. I don't really respect her to begin with and I think she's pretty immature. I'm disappointed that they wasted a spot as a guest judge on HER. She was pretty useless to me. Victorie Beckham never would have approved of her devil hoodie. It's a shame, really.

I was just looking at the schedule for the season again and I think we are totally getting jipped. I know I said that before but if you take a closer look--there are 4 weeks of auditions!! That is ridiculous. I wonder if AI will throw in the towel once Simon leaves so they're just dropping the ball...(can you imagine?)

Seriously though--what the heck? So far I'm disappointed in the entire season...I was talking to a friend today about how there will never be a David/David finale and how depressing it is. That was by far my favorite season of Idol. Freak--they'll send anyone to Hollywood this year. Dress up like a guitar and you're in. I just remember there being a few auditions in '08 that caught my attention (I even remember Brooke White's audition and it showing her backstory with the twins). This year the most exciting thing was watching General Larry Platt sing about keeping your pants off the ground...and he didn't even go to Hollywood so what does that tell us?

I'm in a cranky mood. Good thing I have this blog to rant and rave on about.

Boston & Atlanta Auditions

I swore I wouldn't post anything about the auditions...because if I get too attached to someone and then they leave during Hollywood I get totally bummed out (David Osmond for example) and even though I'm disappointed in the talent of 75% of the contestants they've sent through to Hollywood, I'll still share some thoughts on some of the noteworthy individuals..for the good...and the bad.

Maddy Curtis

Loved her. She's really poised for only being 16. She seems like just a sweet little thing. I hope she doesn't crash and burn in Hollywood because I'd really like to see her do well. She is the type of contestant that I really hope for. This is what American Idol is about (or what it should be about). Taking people from obscurity and putting them in the lime light.

Amadeo Diricco

I think his family was more fun to watch than him. His personality got him through so I doubt he'll last through Hollywood.

Ashley Rodriguez

I think she seems normal enough and she has a good voice. Plus, she's pretty hot. (Girls can say that about other girls, ok?) Look out girls...she is one to watch.

Jermaine Sellers

Every year has to have a soulful church singer/pastor and I think we've found ours for 2010. I liked his vibe. Pretty laid back and I loved his runs. Did Mary J. Blige really say that it was "anointed?" Funny. But yeah, I'm liking him.

Katie Stevens

She is my favorite so far. Young, super talented, not too dramatic for having a good backstory and she's definitely marketable. I hope she doesn't get cut in Hollywood because I'm really liking her.

Lamar Royal

He's got me scared but I couldn't stop laughing. He went from "I love all of you" to "I'm going to kill you all with the gun that is in my pocket because that's how I roll". I'd like to refer to him as "Rage-aholic". Seriously scary...

Mallorie Haley

I don't have to say except for the fact that is pretty much EVERYTHING they are looking for. I can see her doing really well.

Antonio “Skii Bo Ski” Wheeler

I knew there was something fishy/creepy about this guy. Not only was he a total maniac, but now we have proof that he's been arrested for possesstion of marijuana, cocaine and handing over a fake ID to a police officer. He's also been involved in some very racy youtube videos. Sounds like a real winner. He'll be gone in Hollywood Week. They don't really have a choice...

Bryan Walker

He's good. He's a cop. He's someone I'd like to see do well.

Lauren Sanders & Carmen Turner

Um...CLEARLY Carmen was the better singer. How did they really think that they were equally talented? Is Carmen just really really nice or is she slightly deranged like Lauren? I can't decide. Their little preview made them look a little ridiculous. I bet Carmen isn't really as ditzy as she looked (let's hope).

Tyler Grady

Hmmmm. I've heard a lot of buzz about this guy and it's very possible that he'll grow on me but at this point I'm just kind of meh about him. Does he own a comb?

Vanessa Wolfe

I'm seriously not sure what to think about her. I don't want to be mean and I don't want to just type something to try to have an opinion...but she definitely stuck out to me. Do you think she can really hack it in Hollywood?

It's funny that not only did he sing with Kris Allen and Matt Giraud in Hollywood Week--but he also made it through to the next round. I'm really interested to see where this goes...

Simon Cowell will be leaving American Idol after this season to focus on the British television serious X Factor. I can't really imagine Simon not being there. I definitely think it will hurt the ratings. I have such a love/hate relationship with Simon Cowell. Somedays I just love him...other days I think he's the biggest jerk in the world. It's almost here!! My favorite show. I've debated about whether or not I want to keep up with the blog for this season. I guess I'll keep doing it unless it becomes a hassle and more of an obligation. We'll just take it week by week. Here's the rundown of how things are looking for this season. Adam Lambert gets to CLOSE the AMAs and gets a "little carried away". I didn't think he'd go Diva this quick on us...but he has. I seriously don't want to describe in detail what he did that got his appearance on Good Morning American canceled, but it's out there if you want to know. I did find this interview with The Early Show interesting.

He is so unapologetic about it all and blames the parents for letting their kids watch Late Night TV. I think he's right that young children should be in bed at that time but it shouldn't matter WHO is watching. As an adult--I find it offensive so I think he's just using that "I'm not a babysitter, I'm an entertainer" bit as a cop out. I just don't think this should be on TV at all, especially network TV. This is just the interview...I think it may show a small clip of the performance with blurs in the right places. But really, my respect for him has GREATLY diminished.

Even if he does have an amazing voice and he's fun to watch in interviews. Even Madonna & Britney didn't do anything this risque...now that's saying something. I know he likes to shock people but he has gone too far.

All of you skeptics can keep thinking otherwise...but I know that even though Carrie is dating a huge hockey player, something will happen between her and David Cook. Trust me. He said her name.

Cook said that he, too, is a fan of "American Idol" winners, including Carrie Underwood, whose Dec. 7 Fox television special will feature Cook.

"Carrie Underwood has a new album out today," Cook said. "Go buy it so she and I can continue to be friends. Carrie said this is one of her favorite songs on the record," he added about "Lie."

Cook is on tour until the 1st of December. He isn't coming anywhere near Utah, Nevada, Californa (fine, one in Cali), Washington, Oregon or Montana. Sorry peeps. But if you live in Florida you probably love your life.

She performed on Good Morning America and I thought you'd like to see her performance. Chris Richardson--Remember Him?

Season 6 of American Idol? Sang Geek in the Pink? Was BFF with Blake Lewis? Well, he's got an album in the works that just about to wrap up. He's been working on it for 2 years because he wanted some time to figure out who he is as a musician and really make something he was proud of, that he helped write and something that wasn't just thrown together. If you don't remember him, here is his audition video to help out your memory:

I watched a great little interview with him on Walmart Spotlight or something like that (do you like how carefully I pay attention to detail?) And I learned quite a few things:
1. In High School he was more of a jock. He dabbled in several sports and was just a closet musician. It kind of evolved after High School when he really started to focus on it more.

2. He plays the guitar, keyboard, drums and he can sing! Dang.

3. He is constantly being compared to Justin Timberlake, but in my opinion--is better looking. I'm just sayin'...oh, and he is totally ripped.

Katharine has an AMAZING new single out and I have to say that I love it. I didn't ever get into her first album and I was pretty turned off by her on Idol. I was actually glad when Taylor Hicks (who?) won. I felt like she was trying to sell sex and not music. But now I think she has really found something that suits her (which will hopefully make up for the fact that she LOST gallons of beautiful brunette hair and went blond).

On Dec. 7, Underwood has a two-hour Fox variety show, Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special (8 p.m. ET/PT).

"It makes me feel nice to think that people can watch the special and hopefully giggle and enjoy some great music."
On the show, she sings a trio with Christina Applegate and fellow Oklahoman Kristin Chenoweth. She also duets with one of her heroes, Dolly Parton. "I was just bright red and beaming the whole time," Underwood says.

I can't take lots of time and if you read the normal AI news like I do, you'll already know these little tidbits, but I thought I'd share anyway!

I am not so patiently waiting for Matt Giraud to be signed. I've watched several of his videos from tour and I just can't believe he hasn't been snagged up yet.

Perhaps the most exciting news (for me) is the news that Ellen DeGeneres is replacing Paula Abdul on American Idol.

To be honest, I was getting to the point where I wasn't sure how much more time I was willing to invest in this show...but now, I have no choice! I can't miss it now. I love Ellen and I think she will be a perfect addition to the show! What do you think??

I figured it out

Why is it that American Idol has the ability to cause withdrawals almost immediately after it ends? Why do I always like contestants MORE after they have been sent home? I have figured it out and I will give you my opinion.

During the show we only see 90 seconds of a performance from each contestant. Here and there they may get a little 30 second interview with Ryan before they sing but even then we don't really get a feel for who they are. It's really hard to get a feel for who these people are when we see a little pre-performance "package" as they call it. I remember the first interview that Allison had with Ryan was painful to watch and look at her now. I think she's hilarious.

So basically my theory is that we don't see enough of the contestants to really get a feel for WHO they are. If anyone out there watches American Idol Extra, they interview the contestant who is going home and those interviews are always so fun for me to watch. Once they are interviewed for longer than 30 seconds you can actually get to know them...imagine that. I found out that Megan Joy actually was pretty cool! I decided that Anoop didn't bother me like I thought he did. I also discovered that Scott DID bug me more than I thought he did...heh. My point is that after they are booted, we get to see them do a bunch of press and appear on talk shows and we get to see a whole different side of them. Also, if you watch or read Michael Slezak from EW.com, he occasionally interviews the contestants and those interviews are also really insightful and funny.

I decided they also need to show more behind-the-scenes footage. We got a little bit at first of them seeing the mansion for the first time and then the food fight but that was it. This is a REALITY show and people watch reality TV to see real people in real situations. I think it would really help the audience connect with the idols if they saw what they were like behind the stage.

According to Fox16:

Based on incorrect information provided to one of our reporters, FOX16 News reported Wednesday night, an extraordinary number of votes came in from Arkansas to American Idol.

AT&T spokesman Ted Wagnon told us today, "AT&T does not divulge or confirm how many votes were cast in any state." We apologize for the error.

This video with Billy Bush from Access Hollywood did a great job of clearing it up as well. They talk about:

Tonight's show was INSANE. I can't believe that they can get such huge names. There is NO WAY that in Seasons 1-4 they could have gotten such high profile celebrities on the show.

I have to add a few of my highlights from tonight:

Watching David Cook sing and struggle through the end of it. He's doing something for a good cause and not only is it impressive but it's so classy of him. David Cook has grown on me so much in the last year, it's ridiculous. That made me teary eyed.

Watching "bikini girl" get out sung by Kara!! HAHAHAHA. I'm sorry, but I found some deep satisfaction in watching bikini girl look like an idiot on stage. Did you see the death stare she gave Kara? LOL

The duet with Kris and Keith Urban. Hello--Kris could totally sing country if he wanted to. That was a well matched duet...unlike Steve Martin, Michael Sarver and Megan Joy. HUH? That song was super weird and awkward for them to sing...

I loved the duets between Allison & Cindy Lauper and of course the massive PARTY with QUEEN and Adam & Kris. That was seriously fun. Good times.

Final Thoughts by Rae

So I have time to kill because Danny is in surgery (nothing major--he has a hernia) and since the hospital is 4 hours behind we've been phenomenally bored. I just wanted to get some final thoughts on the season before we end this thing. I should probably mention that unless I specifically mention a comparison between A&K, I might just be comparing them to another contestant or just to other musicians in general.

ADAM
I'm not going to disagree that Adam's vocal talent is probably superior to Kris's. His stage presence is also very solid because of his training and background. Back when he auditioned for the judges, I remember thinking that he was a force to be reckoned with--and he has been! I guess what bothers me is the way EVERYONE has blown him up to be a God or in Kara's words, a "Rock God". Just yesterday I picked up a People Magazine to flip through it and sure enough, Adam had the first & largest picture of the article. Then Kris & Danny were given little pats on the back. Sure, he gives people something to talk about but that doesn't mean they're always saying good things.

Adam seems like a genuinely nice guy. I don't care if he's gay or straight--I care about his talent. He is overflowing with it. I like how down to earth he seems on the show. I'll stay away from videos and pictures that have surfaced since joining American Idol...mostly because this site is PG and it's not really relevant to his talent.

So basically I do like him, but his signature screaming has gotten really old for me. I was really enjoying his 2nd song last night until he busted out with the screams. I know that's just his style but that doesn't mean that I like it.

KRIS

I'm still in a little bit of shock that Kris is in the final 2. I don't think ANYONE would have called that once he hit the top 13. Well, once he made it through to Hollywood Week. I like that he truly become the epitome of the dark horse. I think most people would agree that we thought Danny and Adam would be competing for the title. As far as his vocals go--Kris can't compete with Adam in his range or his ability to sing/scream at the top of his lungs but Kris has been smart to do his best with what he has. I think one thing that gives Kris an edge on Adam is that he can play instruments. That might not seem like a big deal to some, but essentially, I think that helps him artfully construct his version of any song. After American Idol, the contestants don't have the help that they have while they're on the show. That won't even be an issue for Kris. His stage presence will undoubtedly improve as his experience improves.

I like how humble Kris is. He's never been the one to jump in front of the cameras and act like he was starving for attention. He's totally chill and then when it's time to get on stage he gets his sexy on (is that PG?)

I've said it for a while but the other thing I love about Kris is that he produces the EXACT type of music that I love. Acoustic guitar, piano and chill with a layed back beat. I would/will totally buy his album. There's a chance that I'd buy some Adam songs but it would REALLY depend on the type of song.

American Idol probably needs Adam to win because he is a rock star. He is hip and different and so unique from any winner the show has ever seen. It would probably be a huge upset if Kris won and that would make things really interesting, too :)

So to wrap this up: I like Adam. I really do. I like Kris more. He is my favorite and whether he wins or not--he'll still be my fave. May the guy with the most votes...win. heh.

I am secretly excited for this season to be over. This blog has been really fun for me but I'm ready to be done. Hopefully all 5 of you that actually comment have enjoyed it.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Dial Idol, it's a program that can somehow measures the amount of busy signals that each contestant has. Obviously, the more busy signals, the more votes they're getting.

It's NOT 100% accurate so you have to take that into consideration. This could basically mean nothing...but if nothing else it shows how tight of a race this is going to be! Besides, text votes account for the majority of the votes now anyway with people that have unlimited texting on the AT&T plans.

I voted for 3 of the 4 hours. I'd say I did my part. I'll probably hate myself tomorrow because I'm so tired...but it's kind of fun to get into it. It makes you that much more emotionally involved. Heaven knows I don't have enough of that in my life...

DANNY DOES A RECAP

I am so pleased. Pleased as punch. I gave Danny a hard time about not doing recaps anymore and how he'd given up and he (as he loves to do) proved me wrong. Here's the other thing, he said pretty much EXACTLY what I was thinking. EXACTLY. So I'm not even going to bother doing a review. I am pretty good at multi-tasking though. I am typing this, voting and looking at dial idol results. Kris is still in the lead so we'll see what happens...

I did the font in purple because it's a perfect mix of both Danny and I's thoughts. WOW. Nerd alert.

Adam: Mad World
Yeah, that's a great rendition, but I've gotten sick of his 8-octaves-higher-than-anyone-can-even-think singing style. I realize that most people already went into tonight knowing who they were going to vote for, and I got tired of Adam's style weeks ago. And I agree with Simon, what was up with the smoke and the dramatic lighting and all that? I feel like they should have had him hooked to a cable so as a final climax he could be hoisted into the air and flown around the audience. Maybe I would have liked it if they did that.

Kris: Ain't No Sunshine
This was one of my all time favorite songs of Kris' this season, so I'm glad that he did it tonight. I think he sounded amazing and flawless.

Adam: A Change is Gonna Come
Amazing vocals, still not anything that I would ever buy on iTunes. Did I mention I'm sick of him and his creepy facial expressions?

Kris: What's Going On"
I'd never heard this song before, but it's EXACTLY what I would end up buying from iTunes. I want to download it. It wasn't a big number compared to Adam's, but that's Kris. He's more acoustic than anything. He knows that he can't belt like Adam, so he plays his strengths. That's what got him to the finale.

Adam: No Boundaries
This song was so cheesy. I felt like Adam's version was twice as fast as it should have been. It made me feel out of breath to listen to him try to get the phrases out so fast. Again, he's got a great voice, I'm just sick of him.

Kris: No Boundaries
Kris' version was definitely more appealing to me. Not as fast and just the sound of the whole song was better than Adam's. I felt bad for him that the song was in such a high key, so I'm glad that the judges pointed it out. Here's to hoping that all the Danny voters want Kris to win.

Meet Our Top 2

I AM SO EXCITED. I'm already doing finger stretches so that my hands will be ready to vote until they bleed next week. I like Adam and all--but I desperately want Kris to win. I'm tellin' you--I am a passionate person and when I make up my mind with something, it takes A LOT to change my mind. So--there we have it. The two guys who weren't really spotlighted in the beginning are the last guys standing. I love it when that happens. I especially love that Kris came out of the woods...where was he hiding?

These two couldn't be more different. I bet they realized that pretty quickly after being made roommates from the beginning of the competition.

Adam is an openly gay, single guy who isn't ashamed of who he is. He is confident and strong and entertaining. Adam is intense.

Kris is a very religious, married man who has calmly and quietly worked his way into our hearts. His confidence is quiet yet secure. Kris is artistic.

All is well in Idolville. As much as I loved Danny when this season began--it was his time to go. His songs all started to sound the same to me and as much as I fought it, I found myself jumping off the Danny Train. I just mean that I didn't want him to win. I do like his personality and he seems like a really good guy...I just didn't want him to win. 3rd place is JUUUUUST right.

First I just have to say that Simon needed a wardrobe assistant tonight. He had a yellow stain on his WHITE shirt that was distracting to me...anyway--whatevs. I was trying to grab a screen capture which maybe didn't do it justice but I watched it on my Dad's 64" HDTV and trust me, it was a pretty obvious stain.

Moving on...I am SO GLAD that I picked Kris as my favorite last week because he was by far the best tonight (in my opinion of course).

Danny Gokey - “Dance Little Sister Dance” by Terence Trent D’Arby

I think Danny must have sung his guts out back in Milwaukee because his voice sounded even more hoarse than usual. Paula didn't do him any favors by handing him a song that nobody even knew. Then Danny came out and pulled a meh. I'm starting to wonder if Danny even knows what type of album he would make? It's pretty obvious with Kris and Adam.

“You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker

I hate that he chose this song. I seriously do NOT like this song. Unless, my own Danny dedicated it to me on the radio or something and then it would be acceptable. Again, I was hoping Danny would prove why he felt he needed to be in the finale but he didn't. It was totally meh for me again...and I'm starting to think Kris has a chance!! One thing that Danny has going for him is his interaction with the fans. If you watch American Idol extra you see glimpses of how he interacts with people and they love him.

Kris Allen - “Apologize” by OneRepublic

Perfect song choice for Kris. It was close to the original version but I don't know if I would have liked him adding too many things to change it. I'm not sure what bum note Paula was referring to? Did anybody else hear it? I didn't.

I would NEVER have expected Kris to sing this song and I'm SO glad he did!! This officially seals the deal for me on why he's my favorite. He can take any song and mold it into a "Kris" song. I love that he can play so many instruments and I love his voice. *Sigh* PLEASE let America vote him into the Finale!! I didn't vote tonight because I wasn't even home during voting hours...so I'm putting my faith in the other voters. Do me proud! I also love seeing Kris's wife in the audience every night. She is so adorably proud of him and I hope she has a very strong wooden bat to beat off the girls.

Adam Lambert - “One” by U2

I was surprisingly bored with Adam to night. When they announced he'd be singing U2 I was excited. I love this song. I liked the way he started the song but then he just went WEIRD for me. Too much shrieking, too many glory notes and it all got a little manic for me.

“Cryin” by Aerosmith

Again, when they announced Aerosmith I was like "yesssssss, he'll show the world how Aerosmith should be sung". But I was really expecting Adam to wow me. I actually think this was the most blah performance from him all season. Not a good time to snooze, buddy. One thing I REALLY like about Adam is that aside from his singing--he seems like a VERY likable person. He is genuine and real. He seems truly grateful when he is praised and he doesn't take himself too seriously. Wouldn't we all DIE if somehow he didn't make the top 2? I'm not worried at all, I'm just imagining how crazy it would be.

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with the "fail blog" but this is definitely a soon-to-be-added addition, if it isn't already.

Basically Danny Gokey starts singing Billie Jean (why? I don't know) and loses his lyrics sheet...he forgets the words...or never knew them and ends up just standing there looking dumb (sorry Gokey fans). It's a must watch. Well, he does sing some "come on!" and some "ugh!" and other such things but it's so painful. It really is. Eventually he just ends the song because he realizes that it's just not going to happen.

Now I know how a lost puppy feels. Danny has ditched the blog because he's "too busy" to help. He "works too hard" and "doesn't have enough time" and "has other priorities" and "this isn't at the top of his list" and so on and so forth.

My heart is broken.

But seriously, he really did ditch the blog. How is it possible that there is any other blog he'd rather read than this one? Everyone boycott HIS blog...and we'll see how he likes it. Sorry babe, but this wound cut me deep.

Update: I agree Brianna--I loved having Danny's opinion on here because we didn't always feel the same way about things and that added variety to the blog...but you'll have to take that up with him :(

Well you don't REALLY have to choose...but I've decided it's more fun to choose a favorite. So far I've been kindof "meh" this season. I mean, it's been entertaining but I just wish I had somebody that I was rooting for. Nothing will ever compare to David Archuleta. So...having said that and having reviewed all of their performances, I am going to side with Kris. He probably won't make it another week but that's ok. He's my favorite and I'm ok with that.

I was literally sad all day because I had this horrible feeling that Kris was going home. He might not be the obvious winner--but I was pretty worried after Tuesday night. At this point even the uber talented people are checking out, so I wasn't too sad to see Allison go. I like that the top 3 are all guys...pretty indicative of the whole season so far. Was anybody else surprised or did you see it coming?

Rock Week: Dumbest Week Ever

Rock week was a total joke. Apparently they weren't allowed to change up the songs at ALL because you know darn well Kris wouldn't have chosen the song he chose. It sounded like it had to be a very specific classic rock. Like hard rock. I'm positive their list of songs was extremely limited. And what the SLASH as a "mentor". No. That was ridiculous. He was about as helpful as Randy as a judge.

Adam Lambert - “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zepplin

No brainer. His voice was made for this song. For Zepplin. For screaming...unlike some people. Was it just me that Kara seemed WAY HYPER?! I wanted to text her a xanax or something. She was seriously out of control. I'm usually a fan of her but last night was a special occasion.

Allison Iraheta - “Cry Baby” by Janis Joplin

I think this performance was my favorite of the night...although she didn't need to meet up with Adam's stylist. It finally was over the top with me. I thought she had a good, solid performance and I think she deserved more praise than she got. How can they say she doesn't have personality? I'm glad she stuck up for herself to Simon. You go, Allison.

Danny Gokey and Kris Allen - “Renegade” by Styx

I actually really liked the duet idea...but in this case it pretty much bombed. Their voices are SO different. Yeah, the harmonies sounded good, but that was about it. I just didn't feel ANY chemistry between them. I wonder how close they are when the camera isn't rolling. Then Simon in his usually tactful way throws Kris under the bus. "Danny was better". Kris looked so mad. Can you blame him? He has so much artistry that is going unrecognized. It is SO OBVIOUS that everyone in Idol Land wants a Gokey/Lambert final. That's been a no brainer since the top 13. In a perfect world it would be Kris vs. Adam (for me, anyway).

Kris Allen - “Come Together” by The Beatles

I'm so mad that Randy commented on his guitar playing because I totally wanted to be original in my compliment. Dah well. He looked stellar playing an electric guitar. And he acted like he'd been doing it for years. If I know Kris the way I think we ALL know him by now, he would have done something a little different than just playing it straight. My personal opinion is that they weren't allowed change things up...which just ISN'T fair. It really boils my blood. Overall, even though it looked like Kris was struggling with trying to belt, I thought his performance was decent.

Danny Gokey - “Dream On” by Aerosmith

When this song first began I was thinking "yeah...he's totally got it". But as the song progressed and he was building up to the end, I knew we were in for a doosy. I actually wished I'd had my earplugs for that....SHRIEK. You guys, I have been a Danny fan for a long time. I'm not going to lie. But I know shrill when I hear it--and that was just beyond awful. Then to say that he'd have to go back and listen to it because he didn't quite believe that it was that bad...oh Danny. He's going to be sorely disappointed and even embarrassed when he watches it back. And then what was up with the judges still giving him semi-decent feedback? Aside from Simon's comment...they were way too nice to him. I'm interested to see if his fan base will keep him there. I'm guessing they will.

Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta - “Slowride” by Foghat

I have to admit that after the first duet, I was pretty nervous. But...of course the rockers come out and blow everyone away. They really do sing well together. Then of course since Simon backed up the bus on Kris, he throws in another shot for Allison. Thanks Adam...for unknowingly (maybe?) determining the fate of all the contestants. I thought that was THEIR job?

If you're interested in what happened before the show (what Ryan referenced) it's actually pretty entertaining. And it sounds pretty crazy...ambulances, people falling down stairs, glass shattering all over the stage, no dress rehearsal and the audience being rushed into their seats just minutes before they went LIVE.

To type up a lame recap until tomorrow a.m. I am SO TIRED.

I did NOT like tonight's show. There was so much weird going on. Kris and Danny were totally out of their element. Allison's hair finally got a little too over the top for me and Adam is officially a woman.

I'll be shocked if Kris's head isn't on the chopping block after tonight. Allison's was my favorite performance. Danny has never injured my ears so badly, Adam has never bugged me so much and I've never felt so bad for Kris.

Ahhhhh, so much to discuss! This will have to wait until tomorrow. My dad has a man crush on Adam though--oh, the irony.

p.s. I cant' stop thinking about Danny singing that song. I think EVERYONE is to blame. Someone should have stopped him. And this is just adding fuel to the fire because our "frenemies" over at Vote for the Worst are hoping he'll take the crown.

It was either this week or next...so I knew it was coming. What shocked me completely was seeing the bottom 3. KRIS AND ADAM?!! Are you kidding me? But I voted like 50 times for Kris, doesn't that count for something? :) I bet Adam's hard core fans will come out in full force next week. Now Danny is the only one who hasnt' been in the bottom 3.
